The brief was to capture and collect images of signs around Lincoln and create 5 different 5 second videos.
I decided to combine all 5 of my sign video sequences and add a layer of music to give the video an extra edge. With the help of digital effects and editing, I think I managed to construct something exciting and keep the viewers attention throughout. I focused on the shapes the signs created when distorted and tried to let the beats of the song become the narration and timing of the video.

Dynamic type animation - Typography assignment
The brief for this Typography assignment was to animate a passage of text from the book Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami.
"I lie in the round clearing
and let the sun wash over me
my ears tuned into the wind,
whipping through the treetops
I’m freed from the gravity and float up
open my eyes and it’s gone."
We were asked to use our skills as a typographer to
express the “feel” of the text through motion, transition and stylish composition.

Recent Portrait photography
Below are a selection of Portraits captured by myself on a recent photo shoot for my girlfriend Amy Sayles. I am a huge fan of black and white photography, I also decided to shoot all the images using only one spot light and a clean white backdrop. The purpose of this was to bring out the shadows and highlights of the subject as well as add a vintage look to the images.

The addition of Film/Flash to sound.
Below is the video composition for my Digital Practice assignment 'Adding Flash/Film to sound'. I created a short film to add visual narration to my Soundscape that was composed to represent the word 'Nervous'. The Soundscape was performed and recorded by myself using various musical instruments. I wanted to set a similar tone for the video as I did for the music. My final idea was to gradually build the tension for the audience, making them more and more anxious. Then just as they get uncomfortable, they experience an on screen visual attack. The purpose of this tension build up was to allow the thought of fear to take over the viewer until they reach the climax of the film where everything becomes instantly black. This emotional journey constructed was intended to be similar to the feelings you would get if you were having an actual panic attack. I decided to create a dream/nightmare sequence using actors, D.I.Y camera tricks, costumes, Flash and digital effects.

Typography - 72 experiment (Excessive sleep deprivation)
The purpose of the 72 experiment was to inform students on a chosen topic related to the word 'EXCESS'. The subject I chose which I thought was relevant is 'excessive sleep deprivation' and how it can be harmful to to before your physical and mental health. For this assignment I decided to personally stay awake for 72 hours and catalogue the effects using video diaries, time-lapse imagery and personal thoughts. I also chose to back up my results with surveyed information taken from 100 people currently studying at Lincoln University.

Typography - 'Yes Man' closing credits sequence.
Here is a motion sequence from the recent film 'Yes Man', not an amazing piece of cinema but I really liked the typography and transitions used in the closing credits.
Rankin attempts a Bailey classic from 1963 Vogue.
